GOOD FOOD MARKETS GOING
FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH

The Totnes Good Food Sunday Market, which captures that elusive “Totnesian vibe”, will be six years old in June 2016 and to mark this milestone, the market will host a series of events throughout the Spring and Summer to celebrate this achievement.

Building on the success of The Totnes Good Food Sunday Market, two new markets are being added to this year’s ‘Good Food’ calendar. Organiser Ray Reynolds said, ‘The demand from traders and the public for more quality food markets, has had me scouring the diary for suitable dates and venues to stage a couple of one off events. Which, if they prove popular, I would be looking to repeat them again next year’. (Full details can be found on the News Page).

Ray also added: ‘By adding extra markets to the ‘Good Food’ portfolio does not mean that I am taking my eye of Totnes. The TGFS is still the keystone, it is as important to me today as it was when the market first started back in June 2010 when 24 local food traders showed their support for the market and turned up to trade. The people of Totnes got behind the event and that was the beginning. Nearly six years later and the market is still going and getting stronger. Most of those original Good Food traders are still trading on the market and they have been joined by many more. It never ceases to amaze me as to how much good food is being grown and produced in our area and it is a privilege to be part of helping to showcase this wonderful fare. The vitality and enthusiasm of the markets’ traders and the quality of their goods is the core success in keeping the Totnes market flourishing and long may it remain so’.

With 55+ fantastic food traders travelling from all over Devon and its borders, bringing with them some of the very best food our region offers keeps the TGFS market right at the top of the Westcountry food market tree. In the short time that the market has been operating it has been runner up twice in the Devon Life food and drink awards and a winner in 2012. And in 2014 the market was awarded Gold from Taste of the West as the Best Food Market in Devon, to date the market’s crowning achievement. The judge’s report praised everything from the “personable and engaging stallholders” to the “lovely animated buzz and lots of chat, banter and gossip in all areas.”
“The market,” it adds, “sells premium goods at sensible prices.”

So, if you love local and regional food, why not pay us a monthly visit? Come early, to Talk Food - Taste Food - Buy Food at the Totnes Good Food Sunday Market.
