TOTNES FOOD MARKET TAKES TO THE STREETS!

This autumn will herald a new phase in the life of Totnes’ award winning monthly food market. To enhance the market’s reputation as the largest and most vibrant farmers’ market in Devon, the market is set to become bigger and better.

More fantastic food stalls are being added to enhance the appeal of this producers’ market in and around Totnes market square. And to add more colour and variety to the event, an Artisan Craft and Arts Street Market, featuring a host of local creators displaying their wares will be on display in street stalls leading up to the market. Plus table top stalls of all descriptions will fill the arches of the ancient Butterwalk which overlooks the market square.

‘The whole idea is to ‘Celebrate Totnes’, said Ray Reynolds, market organiser. ‘The town already hosts an amazing food market once a month, attracting people from all corners of Devon, so let’s capitalise on its success and use it as a springboard to give the town an extra lift. A destination for a Sunday day-out, an extra monthly shopping day to benefit the town. Bring in more visitors and make everyone aware of what a wonderful town we have. A town full of diverse and eclectic shops, streets full of history and architecture and an atmosphere all its own. By adding more strings to the food markets bow, we can give this special day an extra vibrancy for one and all to enjoy the town, all the way from top to bottom - or vice versa!

Ray also added: ‘After six years the food market is getting stronger and will still be the cornerstone of the new monthly market celebrations. The market still has most of its original Good Food traders and over the years it has attracted many more. The markets success story has been down to the loyalty of its local producers, and making sure they have a strong platform to trade from is all part of why the new ideas for Good Food Sunday are being put into practice.
It never ceases to amaze me as to how much good food is being grown and produced in our area and it is a privilege to be part of helping to showcase this wonderful fare. The vitality and enthusiasm of the markets’ traders and the quality of their goods is the core success in keeping this Totnes food market flourishing and long may it remain so’.

With 60+ fantastic food traders travelling from all over Devon and its borders, bringing with them some of the very best food our region offers keeps the TGFS market right at the top of the Westcountry food market tree.
